BOE Meeting

On Thursday night, The Hattiesburg Board of Education’s assistant superintendent informed board members of the decrease in enrollment for the third consecutive year after losing 200 students.

The assistant superintendent, Max Hoemmeldorfer, informed the members attending the board meeting that the schools enrollment has dropped 19%. With all members present, Hoemmeldorfer shared his fear of a bare future. He then continued his message by adding new rules that the students will abide by.

Faculty in Plane Crash

Two professors from Backwater State University escaped injuring after being involved in a deadly plane crash Thursday night at Kennedy International Airport killing five individuals.

Members on board the plane included professor of rural sociology John Dumont and professor of English, George Johnson. These two professors at Backwater State University were on board the same TWA jet from separate conferences in New York City. Dumont and Johnson escaped injury.

Meeman Speaks

Pulitzer Prize winning author spoke to an audience of students at a Memorial Library on Sunday evening encouraging students in their original writing, while discrediting the assignments given by Professors.

Norman Meeman, won the Pulitzer Prize for his book, My Life as Far as It Goes. On Sunday, Meeman spoke to English students in room 111 at the William Oxley Thomson Memorial Library. His message to the students was to learn from authors who are recognized, but to write with originality.

Professor Wins Award

At a ceremony in Pennsylvania last week, The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge handed out their annual George Washington Honor Medal to many well-deserved candidates.

The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge granted 32 winners of the award. One of the winners of the annual George Washington Honor Medal winners was Clement Crabtree. Crabtree is a horticulture professor who likes to make a difference in other countries.
